Fireman Sam Jupiter Fire Engine

Jupiter is the famous fire engine from the long running children's TV show Fireman Sam.

Made by Born to Play the friction-powered Jupiter fire engine is a must have for Fireman Sam fans. The most recent version includes several improved features and accessories.

As well as a moveable crane arm and platform, Jupiter now has flashing lights and voice and fire engine sound effects. What's more, it comes with no less than three articulated action figures - Fireman Sam, Firefighter Penny and Sam. There's even a removable ladder and retractable stabilizers.

It may not be as accurately detailed as the Bruder or Corgi fire engine toys but only the Fireman Sam Friction Jupiter will suffice for fans of Fireman Sam.

Pedal Fire Engine

Pedal fire engines can be found in either contemporary or classic vintage designs.

Rolly Toys superb Pedal Fire Engine has very realistic styling and includes many detailed features. Based on the iconic Unimog truck, the Rolly Toys fire engine even has gears and brakes. This pedal fire truck also features electronic fire fighting light and sound effects.

Rolly make two accessories for the pedal fire engine that can be attached with the front and back towing hooks. The single axled water bowser trailer has a pump and extendable fire hose with jet nozzle. The power winch accessory has a rope, hook and winding arm for emergency towing and lifting.

Toy Company Great Gizmos offer a range of classic and vintage styled pedal fire engines and fire trucks made from steel with chrome finishing. Most of them include a working bell, ladders and a fire hose.

Ride On Fire Engine

There are a number of ride on fire engine toys on the market. Heres a selection and review of our favourites.

Pintoys make their wooden fire engine ride on from sustainable wood. In fact the timber used is a by product of the latex industry. Less productive trees are felled and the area replanted with new trees.

The Pintoy Wooden Ride On Fire Engine toy is solidly constructed. Its designed so that a toddler can sit on the back of the truck and scoot along. Unlike some ride ons, the steering wheel actually turns the front wheels and the red button in the centre makes a great fire engine sound effect.

The seat of the ride on lifts right off to allow for storage of fire fighting equipment. This is a very sturdy wooden toy with good features and eye-catching red livery.

A great fun contemporary plastic alternative from Born to Play would be the popular branded Fireman Sam Jupiter Ride On Fire Engine. This ride on is for the very youngest tots who will enjoy the Fireman Sam figure bobbing up and down as the ride on scoots forward to the sound of fire engine sound effects.

Wow Toys Fire Engine

Ernie is a friction powered fire engine from Wow Toys aimed at the younger firefighter. It has enough built-in bells and whistles to ensure that toddlers will return to play with this toy again and again.

Ernie is very solidly made and will survive most falls without incident. The design of the toy incorporates features that little hands will find easy to play with. The sounds are great - press the blue light and it makes a wonderful 'ding' noise. Push along the truck for a very satisfyingly noisy friction effect.

The fireman's ladder can be rotated by an easy to grip knob. The window of the cab lifts up so a fireman can be placed inside. Also the back of the fire engine opens to reveal a storage space for fire fighting accessories. Ernie comes with firefighter Jack and firefighter Karen as well as two safety barriers.

This must surely be the best designed toy fire engine for little tots and comes highly recommended by this site.

Corgi Fire Engine

These days its not so easy to find a diecast fire engine model.

Fortunately the classic Corgi Fire Engine is still available. This is a 1:36 scale toy with detachable plastic ladders that clip onto the roof of the fire engine.

It has 'Emergency Fire Brigade' decals as used by the UK Fire Service.

Corgi have been manufacturing diecast fire engine toys since the 1960's. Other vintage diecast fire engines can also be found such as the Dinky Toys Bedford Turntable Fire Engine or others by Lesney and Matchbox, all now very collectable.

Wooden Fire Engine Toy

Pintoys wooden toy fire engines are made from sustainable rubberwood cut from latex plantations in Thailand. When the trees no longer produce sufficient quantities of latex the plantations are replanted and the cut timber is used to make award winning toy fire engines.

The Pintoy Wooden Fire Engine is solidly built and, though crafted from wood, has remarkably refined detailing and splendid red paintwork.

For a start the fireman's ladder rotates and extends and the fire hose which includes a nozzle is removable. The sides of the fire engine open revealing storage for fire fighting accessories. The roof section of the cab is also removable to allow for the wooden firefighter figures which cab be purchased seperately or as part of a complete playset with the Pintoy wooden fire station.

Tonka Toy Fire Engine

Tonka Toys have long been synonymous with rugged construction vehicles, though their vintage pressed steel toys are far more durable than todays plastic counterparts.

That said, Tonka have a couple of fire engine toys well worth considering. The smaller Tonka Light & Sound Fire Truck, though not motorized, does emit four different sounds, has a flashing light, opening cab doors and two ladders, one fixed and one extendable.

The much larger Tonka Fire Truck also has a range of buttons to press to activate different lights and sound effects but also has a motorized ladder operated by two levers on the side of this superb multi-featured toy fire engine.

Tonka fire engines may lack the detailed realism of Bruder toys, but this is compensated for by their all around good fun and playability.

Bruder Fire Engines

World-renowned German company Bruder Toys without doubt make some of the very finest fire engine toys.

Bruder produce very accurate and detailed scale model vehicles. Bruder toys combine a very high degree of playability and loads of features with a very rugged and durable finish.

Currently Bruder make the classic Unimog Fire Truck and their two versions of the MAN Fire Engine.

The Bruder Man Fire Engine with water pump is every would-be fireman's dream. Not only does it have, as you'd expect, an extendable fireman's ladder mounted on a turntable, but it also features a real working roll up fireman's hose that actually squirts water. As if that wasn't enough, the cab tilts to reveal the engine, the wing mirrors fold in and the stabilizers fold out. All this plus a working siren with flashing lights and sound effects. Now that's what you call a proper toy fire engine!

The Fire Engine Crane Truck is the other version of the classic Bruder MAN Fire Engine. It has the same specification but instead of the water pump this fire engine features a rotating, extendable and locking mobile crane which neatly stows away when not in use.

The highly versatile Bruder Unimog Fire Engine also has flashing lights and a working siren. It features several opening compartments for storing the extensive array of fire fighting equipment on board. The Unimog fire engine toy is a 1:16 detailed scale model.
